The Pension Benefit
Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) protects the retirement incomes of nearly 44 million American workers in more than 30,000 private-sector defined benefit pension plans. The Pension Search Program, created by the Retirement Protection Act of 1994, locates people owed benefits from fully funded, PBGC-insured defined benefit pension plans that end. When a company's pension plan is transferred to PBGC and a pension recipient cannot be found, the PBGC is continues to look for the missing recipients through the "Missing Participants" service.
