In 2008, the US Government issued a special tax credit
called the recovery rebate credit. This is related to the stimulus rebate checks that were sent out in 2008. If you did not apply to receive your stimulus check, this tax credit will allow you to receive the amount applied to your taxes, either receiving it as a refund or reducing your taxes. Those who did not receive their economic stimulus payment (or did not receive what they were fully entitled to) in 2008 are eligible for the credit.
