The Holocaust Claims Processing Office has played an integral role in helping individuals of all backgrounds obtain just resolution for the theft of property
during the Holocaust. Banks, insurance companies, and museums now take seriously claims from those whose property was stolen, or their heirs. To provide institutional assistance
to individuals seeking to recover Holocaust-looted assets, Governor Pataki created the Holocaust Claims Processing Office of the New York State Banking Department on June 25, 1997.
