They will receive their bi-weekly paycheck whether they spend 2 minutes on the phone with you or they hold your hand through the whole process over a period of several weeks. How much help you get will be largely dependent on how you treat the people you interact with.

Loans for Disadvantaged Students

Student loans may be federal or private.  Loans differ from other types of aid in that they must be repaid to the lending agency.  The "principal" of a loan is what you have actually borrowed and been given.  The "interest" on a loan is based on the percentage of the balance (or interest rate).

Federal Stafford Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized)

In addition to Perkins Loans, the U.S. Department of Education administers the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program and the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. Both the FFEL and Direct Loan programs consist of what are generally known as Stafford Loans (for students) and PLUS Loans (for parents).
