Believe it or not, the federal government is willing to invest a hundred million dollars to keep couples from splitting up. With this kind of money and such a strong emphasis on the promotion of healthy marriages, I did a little background digging.
According to DivorceForm.org, the main reason for an increase in divorces is simply that divorce has become easier. "No fault" divorce has caused an explosion in divorces, as anyone can simply end a marriage by just leaving. And nobody wins. Divorce litigation is up, kids suffer, society suffers. In fact, the writers of DivorceForm.org as seeking to introduce Divorce Reform. Primarily their idea is to educate people on the negative effects of divorce.
Meanwhile, other sources are more optimistic. Marketwatch says that people marrying in the last decade generally tend to stay together more than previous-decade marriages.

However, at any rate, Americans seem to be among the most divorce-prone people in the World - so it makes sense that our Government would be trying to address this.
