Tim believes that Indian culture produces an uncommon mix of innovative thinking, business-minded aggression and comfort with numbers. But the key ingredient, Tim says, is their uncanny ability at negotiation.

In India, every transaction - and he underlines every – is negotiated. From Merchandise to rides to dowries. Haggling permeates every aspect of society. As a result, haggling – something Americans are generally uncomfortable with – is second-nature in India.

Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia, a CA transplant from Bangalore, confirms this. He credits the bargaining skills he learned in vegetable markets at home for getting Microsoft to push its acquisition price for his company from $160 million to $400 million.
